Amtrak
Swirling bubbles in the frozen river.
Cows by a pond. Empty landscapes,
shotgun houses. Your head against
the window, sleeping while I read.
Construction booms and decade-specific
architecture. The crossing signal
keeps time:clang, pause, repeat.
The pitch shifts as we pass.
I am but a microcosm,
a brief universe of meaning.
Stacks of stories and memories
spread across the dining room.
It feels like something.
Don’t zoom out!
It’s too much.
Stay close to our little family.
