In the dark auditorium,

when the show ends

and the curtains close,

we will see that they left

so much shit to clean up

and I will hear the phrase

“they get paid to do that”

echo in my mind as I sweep.

Every broom stroke

a little less violent

until the room is clean

and its cleanliness matches

its silence

and its silence matches

its darkness

and in that calm

I can finally forgive

that thoughtless man.
